Outdoor enthusiasts will love Barracks
Cove Cottages & Kitchenettes. The facility is just a few
feet from the mouth of Shelburne Harbour and a public hiking
trail, with a brisk 10-minute walk to Islands Provincial Park,
one of Nova Scotia's most popular parks. There are groomed
hiking trails, several boat launches, dozens of family picnic
areas and a sandy beach at the park.
Paddlers will enjoy exploring
the many islands and small bays in the harbour. Birders will
appreciate the ease in observing shorebirds in the area
(Shelburne County is one of the best bird watching regions in
Nova Scotia); and hikers and walkers will find the miles of new
and old hiking trails difficult to resist.
And there are other attractions
only a few minutes drive from Barracks Cove Cottages &
Kitchenettes.
- Shelburne is a five-minute
drive and boasts four museums
a marina, yacht club and performing arts centre in its
beautiful historic district
- Islands Provincial Park is a
short walk away
- Restaurants, taverns, gift
shops and book stores are in the waterfront district
- Live music every Friday night
on the waterfront
- River Hills Golf and Country
Club (18 holes) is just 15 minutes away
- Birchtown nearby is home to
one of the largest Black Loyalist settlements in North
America and is only 3 minutes away. The school house museum,
old burial ground and historic church are fascinating places
to visit.
Barracks Cove has a great
location in the heart of the South Coast...
- just an hour to Historic Liverpool
- about 90 minutes to the historic and picturesque towns of Lunenburg
and Mahone Bay
- 90 minutes to Kejimkujik
National Park and adjunct and the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for
terrific nature hikes, camping, canoeing and more
- Halifax, with its waterfront, galleries, museums
and nightlife, is a two and a half hour drive.
- Beyond that, you'll find Cape
Breton, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
